Abstract

This paper presents an analysis of the results of the Programa de Vivienda Progresiva (Progressive Housing Program) for the agriculturally productive rural areas. After its application during four years, the importance of this analysis is that housing policies have traditionally been applied to urban areas. Nowadays public institutions such as the Ministerio de la Vivienda y Urbanismo (Housing and Urbanism Ministry) have decided to incorporate in their programs the rural sector as well, thus covering the whole universe having a housing deficit and which is also part of the concern to overcome poverty in Chile. After presenting the general situation in the Chilean rural area, this paper describes the social impact on the population and then it summarizes the architectural analysis of the housing solutions presented by the Programa de Vivienda Progresiva.
