This paper deals with evaluating the perception people have of the chances of becoming a crime victim in urban residential groups. Such topic is usually left untouched when planning a social policy. Through a theoretical review and the reconstruction of a community experience, we discuss around the factors which have an influence on the perception of security and towards the end of the paper, evaluation indicators for such perception are considered.
