Based on a research project, the following paper deals with the meanings which users associate with existing architectural works in Central Chile- from La Serena to Temuco- Such meanings are commented from the point of view of their possible contribution to a profile of what is "our own" architecture. The topic of the "identification with. Such identification is the result of the coincidence between what is actually constructed and the image the average citizen has, since he is the receiver of the uses and values the specialist proposes.
